A few months ago Smith’s started the Do us a flavour competition, to come up with a new iconic Australian chip flavour. After 1000’s of entries, 4 flavours have been picked, put into limited production and are now on sale.
The flavours, Steve’s buttered popcorn, Aline’s caesar salad, Lucas’ late night kebab and Vinnie’s BBQ coat of arms. It’s now up to Australia to vote for their favourite.
I know which one I will be voting for…none!
The buttered popcorn was OK, but didn’t really taste like popcorn. I guess the fact that they are chips and not popcorn may have something to do with that.
The Caesar salad, kudos to them for managing to make a chip taste like lettuce. But just because you can..does not mean you should. Lettuce flavoured chips is just wrong!
The kebab wasn’t too bad, a bit spicy and probably less bizarre tasting than the rest.
BBQ Coat of arms, now to me I thought it meant it was bbq roo and emu flavour..would you not think that? The smell was very strong, as was the taste and despite the site saying it wasn’t actually roo or emu my tongue said it was and I couldn’t go past a little lick.
The children polished the rest of the bags off, so they must have been edible at least.
Have you tried them, what did you think?

i walked past these last night in the supermarket and thought about buying some… but i had no idea which flavour to pick so decided against it
now i’m glad! lettuce?! ewwwwww

I probably won’t try them unless they’re on the table at work or soemthing, but the kebab sounds slightly appealing

EEEEWWWWW no way saw them advertised on TV teh other day & just thought gross!
gimme good old tomato flavoured chips any day – or salt and vinegar!
Caesar salad all the way
Lettuce? LOL I didn’t get that at all, I tasted a lovely Caesar salad dressing flavour and it was really good. It wins my vote, hands down. Runner up would be the Late Night Kebab. Didn’t care for the other 2 at all.
smith chips were promoting australian ozzy ozzy bla bla new flavour neither taste like what was discribed, the competition was very misleading and now we have all these stupid non australian flavoures, except the coat of arms which is quite frankly gross, they should of chose croc and sea salt or croc and green onion, or the great barrier reef and prawns, all it is, is salt flavour anyway, example… does chicken chips taste like chicken??? answer..no.. not at all, but does chicken chips taste nice??? answer.. damn right it does..yes.., besides original, chilli flavours and salt and vineger there is no other flavour on the planet that taste like what it advertises, we just think it does. maybe I will sue the chip company for misleading us. lol my chicken chips taste like sweet salt and is of yellow colour, but my chook is white and tastes like chicken. so I guess because they are not looking for the great australian icon flavour, then that leads me to think KFC flavoured chips would be the biggest seller potatoe chip in the world, but for marketing australian ..do something with the croc, croc is nice croc is iconic to australia world wide, cartoon friendly marketing, croc slaughter la la… is just salt… who cares we slaughter chickens from the the day they are born, till they reach full retardation growth which is when they are about a week old and we love it, oh yummy nothing like juicey suculent spastic chook, I even have man boobs because of it. “smithchips!!” re do competition make it au icon taste and promo just like the rules set out in the competition, australian flavour uniquely australian…. what happened.. ??? pop corn and butter so ooo USA kabab ?? oh it taste ok, of them all it was a safe one to make, but its not unique Australian, its middle east… coat of arms ?? my cat loves that type of food and so does my front bumper …ceasar salad taste nothing like salad and yes lettice chips gross…
WTF?

hahah one of the flavors i put in was spicy meatball just imagine a sorta spicy chip with a very delicious taste of meat but yeah that was all i could think about and i also though that vinnies coat of arm is just a waste of money and the buttered popcorn i especially liked the late night kebab haha.
i think the flavours chosen are are absolute crap, it has certainely turned me off smiths chips .what about good old fish and chips or meat pie flavour?I cannot see any getting past first base.
haven’t even been keen to try them …nothing appeals to me

The Ceaser Salad flavored one is really nice – I hope it wins because it has a really good flavour. The buttered popcorn one was alright but didn’t taste THAT great. I just tried the Kebab one and I don’t think I’ll buy it again – it was pretty bad tasting. I haven’t tried the coat of arms one and probably won’t – it sounds disgusting.
I live in Perth, and have yet to see these new flavours on the supermarket shelves. When will they be available for me to try?
kebab was definitely my fav. i reckon it will win. all the others i didn’t really like as much and some just didn’t smell right

The voting has closed already, and these new flavours are yet to be available in WA! I’ve been to a dozen stores that sell potato chips, and none of them have the new flavours! They might as well not even exist! They all get my stamp of disapproval!
Wow, that is pretty slack Joanne, that they were not available to you in Perth. I wonder if any other states missed out.
What ever flavour wins, I can’t see it lasting long.
they are all crap
although i haven’t tasted buttered popcorn i don’t want to
this is pathetic
im here stuffing my face with smiths’ chicken and what does it taste like…. mmm salt
the next successful flavour will probably be cow
why can’t we smartass australians think of any decent flavours? or is it just stupid smiths executives picking meals they had for dinner last week
instead of using friggin artificial shit to make more shit why don’t they actually use ingredients relevant to the flavours?
you could just as well say its false advertising if you ask me
i’v ran out of chips now so i’ll stop
