One of my favourite things to do in shopping centres is to go into the biggest newsagent I can find and check out the magazines. Places like Borders are great places for checking out the local and imported titles available.
Magnation has opened its first Sydney store recently and already has five other stores in Melbourne and Auckland. Looking at the photos on their site, these shops look like they’re being run by fans of magazines. Lots of space, lots of titles and even comfy chairs.
They also blog quite frequently – and with a lot more honesty than I would expect from a store. Read up on their difficulties before opening up the Sydney store and their regular My Top 5 Mags section.
The stand-out feature on the Magnation site, though, is the Magdentifier, a funky flash survey with a good sense of humour to identify some mags that you might be interested in. I was told to try reading New Yorker, Red, Frankie and Yen. I’ve only heard of two of those titles, so I have some research to do!
Give the Magdentifier a go and tell us what magazines they think you should read!

Sounds like a very dangerous place to visit! I love mags but have had to cut back as I just don’t have the time to read them anymore!

I know what you mean, Christie! We have a huge pile of mags that still haven’t been read. Such a waste!
