NoteMaker – online stationery store

notemaker

I love stationery. Do you?

NoteMaker is an online store selling to-die-for stationery featuring brands like Moleskine, Filofax, and Original Crown Mill Paper.

I’m thinking that buying a gift for a friend is a good excuse to shop here – and of course I’ll just have to get something for myself! I have a friend who is a high school English and Drama teacher and I think she’d love the Pride and Prejudice notebook. It just screams “book nerd” hehe.

Australian shoppers get free shipping with any orders over $59 (NZ shoppers can get free shipping with orders over $79).

If you’re in Melbourne they have a store called The Source – a boutique newsagent that looks very Melbourne indeed.

Sweet Themes for party products

sweetthemes.jpg

Sweet Themes is an online shop for all sorts of party products and gifts for kids parties and grown-ups parties.

I first came across this site when a friend recommended them to me. She was really happy with their level of service.

Apart from the standard party supplies, they also have seasonal events like State of Origin, Melbourne Cup and St Patrick’s Day. Think I’ll buy some goodies for my Melbourne Cup party this year!

I’m also eyeing off their cupcake teatowel gift set – cute!

Smells like books

smellofbooks1I’ve tried multiple times to read e-books. On PDAs, iPods, e-book readers and my iPod Touch…

There’s alwasys somthing missing. Holding the book. Turning the pages.

That book smell.

I discovered the Smell of Books website, a parody site offering a solution with its aerosol spray. Scents include New  Book Smell, Eau You Have Cats and Crunchy Bacon.

Hmm, don’t know if I’d want my iPod Touch smelling like bacon, thank you very much.

But I wouldn’t be above buying something like this! I mean, you can get New Car Smell in a can, too.

What other scent would you want to have in a can? I’d totally go for the smell of my cat’s fur. And the smell of cupcake icing. And freashly baked madeira cake. How about you?

KeepCup-Reusable Coffee cups

keepcupStop and think for a moment, how many disposable coffee cups would you use in one week? Due to the way they are made, disposable coffee cups are not able to be recycled, and they can take up to 50yrs to biodegrade in landfill.

Australians discard into landfill 1.36 million disposable cups a day. This is a phenomenal amount, imagine this figure globally!

KeepCup is a fantastic Aussie invention helping to reduce the amount of disposal cups being tossed out everyday.

The KeepCup is a reusable coffee (or tea, juice or soup if your like) The cups are unbreakable, made from recyclable materials and are said to last about 4yrs. And most importantly, fit perfectly into your cars cup holder.

Imagine how many disposable cups just one of these would save.

There are 2 sizes in the store, Small 227ml/8oz- $7.80 and Medium 340ml/12oz- $8.20. There is also mention of a large 16oz cup (which would be much more my size!) and a 4oz Babycino size coming soon.

The Cupcake Factory – Drummoyne

If you want cupcakes that are worth driving through torrential rain for, then The Cupcake Factory is your place.

cupcakefactory1Leigh and I have been drooling at the web site for months (literally) and we finally made the pilgrimage on a sopping wet Saturday to downtown Drummoyne for cupcake goodness.

The shopfront is small with barely enough room for 2 adults and 3 kids to huddle aroud the display window trying to decide which cupcakes to take home. There are at least 15 flavours to choose from and the shop is decorated in heaps of cupcake-themed goodies. They even have a cupcake bouquet made out of mini-cupcakes – really wished I’d snapped a photo of it so I can try to make something similar.

The service was friendly and very accommodating of wide-eyed cupcake fanatics! There really were SO MANY flavours to choose from: chocolate drizzle, malteser, strawberry, white chocolate, passionfruit, double chocolate, rocky road, vanilla, caramel, cookies and cream, jaffa and so many more than I can remember.

And look at the cupcake/icing ratio!

cupcakefactory2

That is the most amazing cupcake/icing ratio I’ve seen outside of my kitchen.

Here’s the cookies and cream cupcake, one of the few that sat still long enough for me to photograph it:

Cupcakes are $3.00 to $4.00 and mini cupcakes are available for $1.00. You can get a box of a dozen mini cupakes for $12.00.

The cakes themselves taste home-made and the icing is the most amazing icing I have ever experienced in a retail cupcake. Most of the flavours are very rich – I could only eat half a cupcake at a time – but stunning. Presentation is spot-on, too!
